![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike Deadpool, it's unlikely Batman v Superman contains any graphic sex sequences and nudity. What scenes, what content, were created that cross that line? The big question, though, is why Batman v Superman would be capable of getting an R-rating in the first place. With Deadpool taking $300+ million on opening weekend worldwide and crossing $500 million after just 14 days of global release, it's reasonable to think Warner saw an advantage in getting an official R-rated version of Batman v Superman to announce. And the choice to submit the film for that R-rating wasn't made in a vacuum, folks. We've had unrated Blu-ray releases in the past - The Wolverine had a fantastic extended cut that was essentially equivalent to an R-rated version - this is the first time I can recall seeing an actual MPAA rating of R assigned to a mainstream PG-13 superhero movie's extended Blu-ray release. While of course Deadpool isn't the only reason Batman v Superman is getting an actual R-rated cut, it's also impossible to ignore the timing of this news and the certain impact Deadpool is having on studios' perception of what's now possible and even advisable for finding additional avenues to reach viewers with this content.
